AC Commutator Motors

Although a rather outdated method of obtaining speed control, there are still many of these motors in use today. WEBB-ELEC LTD has the skills to repair and rewind all types of variable speed AC commutator motors.

Should the repair be extensive, we would discuss replacing the unit with a new motor/inverter package as this would be the most cost effective and practical option. However, should the repair be less extensive or the customer does not wish to make any alterations to his plant, we have the skills to carry out the necessary work.

These motors are rather complex and require a lot of careful preparation and information collecting before commencing the repair.
Repairs include:-

• Fully degreasing and clearance of earth faults
• Rotor rewind
• Stator rewind
• Shaft repair or new shaft manufacture
• Repair or supply of new slipring assembly
• Machine, polish and undercut of commutator
• Repair or supply of new brushgear
• Supply of new carbon brushes
• All repairs have new bearings fitted as standard practice

Once repaired, a full set of static tests are carried out on the unit and then it is run up throughout its complete speed range for an extended period of time before being delivered to the customer.
